Unable to find another home through a different rescue, Etienne ended up here. With some foot care and patience, he has become one of the Sanctuary's favorite friends!
Etienne (et-tEE-n)
This is Etienne (which is French for Steve!), our Quarter Horse. He came to us from another rescue who was having difficulty finding him a home due to his anti-social behavior. He didn't like other horses and was content to stay away from all other animals and didn't seem to care for humans either. In the end, it turned out that Etienne had a HUGE abscess in his front driver's side hoof which had to be removed and a metal plate was screwed into his horseshoe which had to be cleaned out every other day. He endured this with grace as long as there was plenty of food and is now learning to pull a cart! He is an easy rider - if you want to ride a horse, this is the one you'll be on! He is tall - about 16 hands high but wants very much to please! He gets along with ALL the other animals at the sanctuary. He's a wonderful addition to Understanding.
